Quick Facts and HistoryThe administrative center of Vinnytsya Province. The area of the province - 26,500 sq.km. The population of the province - 2,000,000. The population of the city - 379,000.The area, called by ethnographers Podillya, is famous for folk handicrafts: pottery, embroidery, weaving and carpet-making. The first mention of the city dates back to the 14th century. Its origins, however, go back much earlier - archeological excavations have proved that Slav tribes inhabited the area in very ancient times. If tourists have no special interest in Vinnytsya, they usually stay overnight. In some itineraries Vinnytsya could be a substitute for Khmelnytskiy and vice versa. Longer stay can be planned for tourists having ethnic roots in the area on request.

Places of InterestAlthough Vinnytsya suffered terribly during World War II, some remnants of 17th-18th-century architecture remain. They are usually shown to tourists during the city tour: the Dominican Cathedral (1624); Jesuit Monastery (1610); the Church of St.Nicholas (1746).
For some tourists visits to the Museum of Pirogov (famous Russian surgeon), Museum of Mykhaylo Kotsyubynskiy (Ukrainian writer), Hitler's HQ "Verwolf".
