If interested in Ukrainian and other civic arms, go to INTERNATIONAL CIVIC ARMS The administrative center of the Chernihiv Province (population of the city - 300,000; population of the province - 1.4 mln). One of the ancient Ukrainian cities (7th century) with lots of really old architecture preserved giving visitors a chance to "feel the air" of the old history. For anyone interested in the history of the struggle of old Slavs against nomad tribes, later Cossack history and the attempts of Ukraine to gain independence, medieval Slavic sacral architecture and fortification , or simply willing to enjoy atmospheric town by the picturesque Desna River, Chernihiv and its environs are a "must-go" destination. Due to being closely located to Kyiv, Chernihiv is usually visited on a day-trip from Kyiv (145 km one way), but overnights there are also possible.

Places of InterestThe standard city tour usually includes: the castle (7th-12th centuries); Savior Cathedral, one of the oldest temples in Ukraine (11th century); the Cathedral of St.Boris & St.Glib (12th century); St.Parasceve's Church (12th-13th centuries); and quite a few more newer churches and public buildings; the Museum of Traditional Crafts of Chernighiv Area.
